Missouri Weekly Direct Slaughter Cattle (week end 08-09-2019)

Confirmed Sales:

Week to date: 320 Last Week: 440 Last Year: 520
( These prices acquired from Missouri producers )

Trading from late last Friday through Friday morning remains light
with dressed grid sales trading steady to 2.00 lower at 185.00. Trade
appears to be heading for a Friday showdown with packers not wanting to
pay more than steady money and trying to buy them cheaper. This weeks
volatility has played into the packers favor, but CME cattle futures have
turned green on Thursday. Since last week commodity markets have had a
wild ride with much volatility with massive selloffs in the Stock Market.
Computer driven fund selling is done faster than seems possible as
volatility intensify the moves by moving money in and out of the market
place. But, boxed-beef business is good and has strengthened and moved
higher this week. Choice continues to trade at a wide premium to the
Select grade suggest that there isnt as much Choice product as there is
Select to go around. As we enter the month of August retail sales and
ads are very positive as consumers and retailers are staying with beef.
Hopefully outdoor activity will remain as consumers seek to soak up as
much activity before the school year resumes. Thursday choice boxed-beef
closed .39 cents higher at 216.88 with Select closing .34 cents lower at
192.37 with a choice-select spread of 24.51, compared to last Fridays
close with Choice at 214.73 and Select at 190.63. The hide and offal
value from a typical slaughter steer on Thursday was estimated at 8.97
per cwt live unchanged when compared to Wednesdays value.
